Yokai Playing Tricks on Me
9” x 12” print
Digital print on high-quality, fine art matte paper
Paper is 10” x 13” with extra white space to give leeway for mats and frames
My first night in Shodoshima, I set my hammock up between two palm trees on the beach. It was getting late and I was starting to fall asleep. Then I heard a noise and looked over towards the sea. I saw some kind of animal coming right towards me but I couldn’t tell what it was. I yelled but it wasn’t loud enough to scare this creature because the fear took my breath away. I sounded like an old man losing his balance and falling over. Right before it was about to charge into me, the animal changed directions and ran away. Petrified with fear, I sat in my hammock shaking for a minute. Then I grabbed my bike and rode away as fast as I could. I was so scared that I left my hammock behind. I think the yokai were playing tricks on me that night.
